Grade 5 Canada Scrapbook Project

Grade 5 Canada Scrapbook Project

Introduction
The travel industry in Canada is facing difficult economic times. Tourism has dropped dramatically causing many hardships for canadians. The Canadian government has picked your team to develop and create a scrapbook designed to attract tourist to the many provinces. Along with the scrapbook, you will make a sales presentation on your findings to the rest of the class.
Task
You must gather information on all the provinces and territories, and choose to feature only those facts that will appeal to potential visitors. Use plenty of persuasive and descriptive language. During the compilation of the scrapbook you will take upon yourself at various times, the following roles: Historian, Tour Guide, Recreation/Cultural Events Planner, Weather Consultant, or Materials manager. Your scrapbook must contain the following items for each role:

Item One: Historian
Name of province, flag, seal and bird/flower/animal. Also give historical facts and events interest.

Item Two: Tour Guide
Tourist attractions
Points of interest
Places not to miss

Item Three: Recreation/Cultural Events Planner
Recreation
Cultural events
Sporting events & parks
Unique qualities and trivia

Item Four: Weather Consultant
Climate by month
Best time to travel
How to dress for the weather

Item Five: Geographer
Outline the shape of the province
Mark capital city and major landmarks
Label and show bodies of water
Make a key for the capital, major cities, lakes, rivers, mountains, or other points of interest.

Scrapbook
Your scrapbook should include a creative, colourful title page, a table of contents, and pages with information on all of the provinces and territories. Each page should be carefully designed. You may choose to do your work on paper and then glue it into the scrapbook. Be certain that your work is neat and presentable.

Process
Visit the following web sites to locate facts, figures, maps, and images for your brochure. Be sure and choose only the most remarkable features that will intrigue and entice visitors to visit. Not every fact will be appropriate. Design your scrapbook so that it is clear, attractive and very persuasive. Since you will be producing a scrapbook and doing a presentation, it is necessary for you to keep notes of your information.
